We had two big plans for the weekend: Snow and Seahawks! Both have worked out well for us. Otis and I are inspecterating the snow:
We are suspicious because someone keeps stealing our snow, sometimes within hours of it being delivered!
Looks all clear, the snow's here for a little while! And then it was time for a little pick up football game before the big game started.
As the biggest dog in the house, Ethel makes an excellent center and she is quite good at hiking the ball.
But I felt as if perhaps the sheppys needed a little guidance so I decided to do some coaching.
Ethel did not approve of my tough love coaching style. These high paid athletes can be such prima donnas.
So I decided to suit up in my Little Lord Fauntelroy jacket and put me in the game, coach! (And if you have to ask why I would wear a LLF jacket for football, well, that's why you're not the coach!)
Run the play, guys!
Hut, HUT!
Wait, which way is the end zone?
Hey! Personal Foul!
Unsportsmanlike conduct! Roughing the coach!
After all that work we decided to settle in for the game. Look at Otis's SEAHAWK GREEN chew we got from The Brat Pack!
Some of us got more settled than others. I got mad at Oscar for wearing Saints colors.
By finally we are in our football watching positions. LET'S DO THIS THING! We have decided to summarize the game with this play:
SEA-HAWKS! And we want to show you our FAVORITE Seahawk, Aaron Curry. He loves dogs!
Can't wait to find out who we will beat next week! Let's go practice guys! Sheppys....Otis...where are you going? I NEED TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO!
Sophie La Brador has christened me with a new name: THE SPORGADOR! She recognizes my incredible fandom that has lifted the Phillies (almost) to the World Series, in addition to my considerably less successful fandom for the Seahawks and Cornhuskers that, um, may help them break even this season. She also knows that I should be the mascot of the SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS! And why? Because I look damn fine in green (yes, that is one Roughriders bananadana, courtesy of Sophie's ape):
And you should know that my sportgadorness is not limited to watching sports, I am also a participant. Here I am rassling BooDog Stuffy. He roots for the Dodgers.
But being the sporgador is not all fun and games. It is hard work. My GranNE sent me this video the other day to celebrate my hard workin' self. She said it was for Narra but I know she was thinking of me.
And I do work hard. Here's a story that my friend Sam's mom posted "Walking with shelter dogs better than friends for seniors" which is about my job as a personal trainer:
Seniors benefit more from regular walking sessions with shelter dogs than from scheduled walks with friends or a spouse. That's the finding from a study to be reported at the annual conference of the International Society for Anthrozoology that begins today in Kansas City.
I train my senior ma ape on the regular. Look at me motorin'!
To conclude the sport report with the sporgador, here I am letting the opposing team know how I feel about them:
I'm so nervous watching the Seahawks play in the playoffs that that my head is spinning!
The Seahawks are playing the Green Bay Packers and while I am usually a big supporter of meat packers (especially those who pack the meatables that I eatables) right now I AM SO MAD at the stupid Packers. GO SEAHAWKS!
Me n' my sissy are ballers. Specifically, footballers! We're big football fans and, as you SHOULD know it was a tough year for my favorite college team, the CORNHUSKERS. But things are looking up for my favorite pro team the SEAHAWKS.
This is what they did today to the Washington Redskins (Sophie--my sissy's teeth rival yours in whiteness, eh?):
Munch Munch Munch.
The Seahawks were in control, just like my sissy.
And also they were LARGE and IN CHARGE like me. There were TWO interceptions--like this one where I STOLE the ball from my sissy (ok, she dropped it in front of me, but still...)
Now the Steelers are going to be on. They're the favorite team of my friends Joe Stains, the Dogs of Jackman Ave, and Rosie the Rabbiter.
I hope they munch on the other team just like the Seahawks did.
my grandapes are leaving for chicago soon to visit my onkel eric. sunday the seahawk apes will play the bear apes. my grandapes have a choice to make. they can root for my onkel's team, the bears, or they can root for MY team, the 'hawks. i have nothing against the bears, in fact i look like one. and by that i mean grizzly bear type-bears, not like william "the refrigerator" perry bears. however, i've waited a long long time for the 'hawks to finally get to the stupor bowl and it's about darn time they win one. so, you have a sophie's choice. do you love onkel eric or do you love wally?
it was a GREAT weekend for wally. i went to the p-a-r-k TWO days in a row. and it was so hot on saturday that i overheated! so, i've started blowing my winter coat. big black tufts are coming out. mawma tells me it's too early to get out my spring wardrobe but i'm darned hot! 70 degrees in january!
and my football teams did great--seahawks AND eagles won and i got a BONE during the eagles game (pictures to come). both were decided by a field goal so there was lots of shouting and obnoxious behavior in our house this weekend. my friend rene came to watch the beagles and he brought us bully sticks even though i growled at him for getting on MY couch.
this weekend my beagles and my seahawks officially made it into the playoffs--woo! (as did the bears). this raises an interesting conundrum, though. the last five teams that lost the super bowl (as the seasquawks did last year) are often said to be "cursed" because they had a losing year after losing the stupor bowl. (it was in the washington post so it must be true).
but this year, the stupor bowl losing seasquawks having a winning record and are headed to the playoffs while the stupor bowl winning stealers have a losing record and will not be in postseason play. what does this tell us? well, you may remember last year's stupor bowl was rife with questionable calls, most of which went the stealers way (hence, they are the stealers). this can only mean one thing--the seasquawks SHOULD have been the winners and the stealers the losers but they cheated and stole the game. yup, that's my story and i'm stickin' to it.
