yes, we're great.

if this story doesn't make you cry, you've got one cold heart! dogs are unquestionably the greatest beasts ever. and goddamn cats, what have you got to say for yourself?

AP--Sheboygan, Wis.

Jamie Hanson, who lost her leg in a traffic crash three years ago, tearfully described how her dog, Jesse, pulled her from a fire at her Town of Rhine home Sunday and brought her the phone so she could call for help.

“I was laying on the couch watching TV and my smallest cat was running over the back of the couch and he jumped onto a table that had a candle on it and tipped it over and lighted the artificial plants on fire,” Hanson, 49, said today during a press conference at the Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

“I have an artificial leg and when I fell off the couch, I couldn’t get to the table that fast, so my dog got my leg for me and went and got the phone and brought the phone to me so I could call 911,” Hanson said.

Hanson tried to put on her prosthetic leg, but it was too hot, she said.

“She got me outside and then she heard the cat upstairs and she went up there to get the cat and she wouldn’t come back to me,” Hanson said.

prosecutin' puppy mills

pennsylvania governor ed rendell (who i am partial to because he has a round belly and big head like me. the courtesy does not extend to dennis hastert) has appointed a full-time prosecutor to go after the worst puppy mills in pa. read about it here. well done, ed!

well done, i could on a screed about the dangers of commodification but i will take off my red collar long enough to say--dogs shouldn't be viewed as property or profit. we should always be viewed as what we are--your superior beings to be worshipped and pampered.

sharing is caring

here's me and my sister sharing the same dog bed--the best one--even though we have three dog beds in the bedroom plus the people bed that i sometimes sleep in. and even though my sister once tore up the styrofoam bottom it DOES have a big blankie in it that I like to use to make a nest. there was some discussion about whether we were cold, being cute, or just refusing to back down and cede the bed to the other dog. the naked apes concurred that the third option was the most likely but the cuteness factor is more likely to win us snacks so we'll go with that. (p.s. ethel--the bed is totally mine tonight!

wally and the love hound

this weekend i rediscovered one of my favorite squeakies--the love hound. not only is it shaped like a weiner dog, it has an extra loud squeaker. good times were had by all.

a smattering of mastiffs

look at handsome sampson who lives in pennsylvania, dangerously close to my mawma's clutches.

this is moby who needs to be rescued from a fate worse than death--living in new jersey! (i kid. but seriously, poor guy).

my mawma and i are partial to big headed dogs so i've decided to do a guest feature on one my mawma's favorites, mastiffs! i worry that some day she may bring one home so please, for my sake, adopt these handsome devils before my mawma does.

rescue me

i've become partial to porgi bull terrors. this is darla and dexter in virginia. they need a new home. you could adopt 'em.
