Pups in Prison
Time Mag has a photo essay about programs in prison in which inmates raise pups, sometimes to be guide dogs or bomb sniffing dogs or sometimes just to train 'em (the pups and the inmates). Here's the website of the group running the program. Bet you can't stop from leaking!

We've read about this before and think it is an amazing concept.
The power of dogs to be transformative, whether with people who are ill, aging, lonely, or in prison is unique.
How could anypne be mean to such an awesome species??

Hey - the prison where my girl works has a guide dog program and when I went to work with her, that's who I worked with! (But I got to go home with my girl at night) Some of my girl's clients work with the doggies and my girl GUSHES over the pups.
Oh - and the other day they brought in a (hairy) hairless Chinese Crested named Jenny into the program and my girl thinks she is the CUTEST THING EVER. Except for me.
We have a prison for ladies in our town and sometimes doggies go there. It is a very important thing for everybody.

my mom thinks if everyone had a dog to love not so many people would be in prison in the first place........
It's magical. Pure and simple. Cool photos.

Cool. I wonder if I could go to prison and hang with Omar from the Wire. I just ignore the episode where ..... well, I won't say anything in case you never saw it.
