dogs with jobs

the new york times has a story about putting dogs to work sniffing cancer and bedbugs. it describes the myriad ways we are indispensible to you, the naked apes, while you are more or less worthless except as animated treat dispensers/belly rubbers. i myself am happily unemployed and could fall under this description:

"Some dogs are too smart," said Alice Whitelaw, who works for a nonprofit conservation group in Montana and uses dogs to track wild animal excrement for biological surveying. "They're like, 'I don't need this. I could be lying down all day.' "
