so it has come to this

i admit it, i rooted for texas against usc even though i am opposed to texas as a team, as a state, and as a general concept. usually, i will mess with texas. but i was really tired of the Greatest! Team! Ever! ESPN really owes us (and probably Texas and USC) a big apology for their relentless overhyping of the trojans and their unforgiveable "2005 Trojans vs...." series, an exercise in stupidity that apparently led poor matt leinart to believe that games are actually decided via SportsCenter and online polls rather than on the field when he declared afterward "We're still the better team."

but many congrats to herbie husker who won the mascot challenge in spite of having been transformed from a charming and slightly pudgy guy in overalls to a looking like a guy about to go to a toby keith concert in his ultra tight blue jeans and belt buckle. both are preferable to lil' red, i guess. i generally like canine mascots (if not their teams) since they can yield hilarious moments like when Uga the bulldog bit an Auburn player (see the video here)

in the mascot challenge between texas and usc i have to say texas has the edge here but only because i'd like to have bevo over for dinner. for steaks, if you get my drift.

next year the hooskers play both texas AND usc and at that time i will return to my dislike of both and will continue to remind longhorns that the stupid "hook 'em horns" thing isn't as cool as they think.
